A few things to do this weekend...

We’re coming up on the tail end of August and while it’s almost starting to finally feel like Summer, most of us are getting geared up for Fall. In case either of those things cause you to experience serious depression, here are a few things to do this week that should take your mind off of things.

Thursday, August 20th
  • Iron Brewer Matchup at Beveridge Place Pub (Seattle) from 7-10p. Fremont & Elliot Bay will both be offering beer made with Blueberries & Cinnamon. YOU decide the winner!

Friday 19th thru Sunday 21st
  • Beer Bloggers Conference in Portland, OR. I’ve decided not to attend for many a reason (insert sad face) but it sounds like a great time will be had. Beer, food, tours & lotsa blog talk… could it be any better? Both beer bloggers and ‘normal’ people can attend this weekend long event, check out their website for more information.

Friday, August 19th

Saturday, August 20th

So after all of that... go ahead and take Sunday off.
Don't forget that Parkway IPA Fest starts next weekend too!
Saturday and Sunday shall be full of hoppy goodness for boys and girls alike.

Calling all Bacchanalians!!

You may already know that Beveridge Place Pub's Barleywine Bacchanal is happening right now. MGD & I chose to spend our loverly rainy Sunday afternoon there last weekend and tasted the following barleywines:

Anacortes Old Sebastes '08, '09, '10 (Vertical Tasting)
Alaskan Barleywine '08, '09, '10 (Vertical Tasting)
Stone Belgo Old Guardian '10
Left Hand Oaked Widdershins '10 (more smoked than oaked. Most know I'm not a smoked beer fan and thnx MGD for letting me taste it before giving me a heads up on the smokiness so I could make the sexiest face EVER as I tried to swallow it down.)
Sierra Nevada Bigfoot '09
Boulder Killer Penguin '09
Seven Seas Wheelchair '10 (MGD thought there was a hint of cotton candy in the wheelchair and don't get me wrong, I thoroughly trust his evaluations and opinions on beer. It did prompt me to ask 'Have you even had cotton candy before?')
Flying Dog Horndog '09
Naked City Cluster Cuss '10 (Could have been so much funnier if it was called the Cluster Fuck, IMO)
Speakeasy Old Godfather '09

I would like to add a small disclaimer at this time. I know it seems like I'm kind of a (huge) lush with how many beer events I attend. It is a lot, agreed. However I am there to enjoy our local establishments while promoting craft beer. I usually drink & share schooner sized brews with my fwends/minions so more options can be tasted. (It's not about drinking to excess) Same case at BPP with the Barleywine event. Everything I listed above that we tasted was served in a 4-6oz glass and shared between MGD & myself. We walked to dinner at some point, picked a DD amongst ourselves, then came back for a few rounds of UNO while the non-DD enjoyed another barleywine or two before calling it a night.

The Beveridge Place Pub Barleywine Bacchanal officially goes from February 25th thru March 5th, so feel free to swing by anytime before Sunday. Many a Barleywine on tap (24!!) with special events going on the rest of the week.

Tuesday 1st (tonight!) - Party Like It's 2007!: Several 2007 vintage barleywines that won't be available again.
Wednesday 2nd - Pairs: Two years worth of brew from Fish, Elysian and North Coast.
Thursday 3rd - Rare Keg!: Port Townsend Bourbon Barrel~aged Barleywine from 2008.
Friday 4th & Saturday 5th - KILL the KEG!: Kill the keg, win a prize! (I wonder if it involves a blindfold, spinning around then being handed a bat...)

Multiple visits strongly encouraged,

Beveridge Place Pub Barleywine Bacchanal (2/25 thru 3/5)

I've been deeply entrenched in the craft beer scene since July 2010. During the last 7 months I've had many a barley wine pass my lips. However, we are now slowly transitioning into my first barley wine season and I'm stoked. Parkway will be hosting their annual Barley Wine Fest on April 30th, which I'm really looking forward to as I hear it's awesome.

And starting this Friday @ 2p (through March 5th) Beveridge Place Pub will be dedicating 24 (twenty-effing-four!) taps to the Wine o' zee Barley.

Here's the lineup (I've highlighted what I am excited to try 'cause I know you care):

Alaskan Barleywine '07, '08, '09
Anacortes Old Sebastes '08, '09, '10
Anchor Old Foghorn '08

Boundary Bay Old Bounder '10
Deschutes Mirror Mirror '09
Diamond Knot Icebreaker '10
Dick's Barleywine '10

Three Skulls Wreckage '09
Victory Old Horizontal '10

In addition to the massive assortment of Barley Wine's featured, Beveridge Place will still have 8 handles devoted to 'normal' brews for the timid (and WEAK!) or in case your mouth hole needs a break. Also, don't miss these special nights during the event:
Sun, Feb 27 - Vertical I
Three years worth of brew from Alaskan & Anacortes
Mon, Feb 28 - Vertical II
Three years worth of brew from Pike & Stone
Tue, Mar 1 - Party like its 2007!
Several 2007 vintage barleywines that will never be available again!

Regardless of how many barleywines I end up tasting during the BPP Bacchanal, my life and soul will still not be complete until I have tried a McGuires I'll Have What the Gentleman on the Floor is Having Barley Wine.

Funniest. Name. Ever.

Sleeping bag, toothbrush & mixed company appropriate sleepwear are all packed in anticipation of the super high ABVs doing what they were meant to...

Barleywines are strong and may lead to a clothing optional status. Therefore I submit the picture above...

Hollyday Hangover

I would say that this is one of the first years I haven't experienced some version of the post Christmas Crash. You know... that sad, ominous feeling that everything that you had been looking forward to since Thanksgiving, is now over and done with. Like a sugar high gone wrong and ending too quickly.  I was looking forward to all kinds of cheeriness and merriment for the 2010 holiday season.

My only problem this year was being way super duper lazy about getting my Christmas shopping done and setting lofty craft oriented goals for myself that were so painfully never going to come to fruition, it's beyond humorous. The usual make-my-own-cards(and get them out on time), craft-up-some-handmade-presents and bake-a-zillion-cookies-for-everyone deal. Nope. Negatory. Not even close.

I did have a wonderful holiday though, no complaints in that department. MGD accompanied me up north to meet mi familia & he did pretty well. Or at least any mental and emotional scars that were inflicted are not visible to the naked eye. I tend to think my family is insane and assume it's going to be a rough go for any wingman I procure for any given engagement. Although lessons have been learned about the two of us sharing an air mattress for 2 nights.

There are the kind of people who think it's funny to dive onto the (air filled) sack (of sin) when it's Land of Nod go time, and therefore causing the pleasantly (and oh so angelically-sleeping-and-not-a-trace-of-drool-or-snoring) slumbering person to fly off the other side of the air mattress. Then there are those of us who don't find it funny. AT. ALL.

Decided to spent the whole of Sunday taking it easy in Seattle with a little rugby, reading, cruising the interwebs at various locations. Hit up Pies & Pints in the Ravenna district of Seattle then made our way over to Beveridge Place Pub for the first time in West Seattle. Totally awesome location! I've heard many a great thing about BPP and have lusted after making an appearance there for awhile. As I told MGD after we took a look around and scoped out the tap list: "I think this place just totally gave me a boner, dude."

Spent a few happy hours at Beveridge, then headed home to call it a weekend. Successfully made it into bed at a decent hour and watched episodes of  Farscape s.3 until I was certain that Aeryn wasn't totally dead, like they implied at the conclusion of Season 2. So. Very. Rude.

However, am now privy to PL/MGD relationship tidbit  #435: While I was anticipating some tears over watching said episodes, I inform MGD that he needs to hurrythefuckup and shower so we can get the show on the road. I like to be held when I cry. He in turn informed me he will take a shower for the length of time equaling that of a normal person and that when I cry, all he wants to do is leave the room.

Good to know, now currently in possession of one dude who hates to see me cry. And after all that time I put into being a non-ugly crier? Wasted. Meh.

Got only so far on my advent beer project for December, obviously. I could try to recount what I drank every day from the last date I listed but that seems like a lot of work that I'm not that enthused about. I'm coming to the conclusion that I can't do anything consistent, for any length of time longer than the attention span of a gold fish. I have GREAT ideas for AWESOME future projects but either I plan it out so much that I'm already over it by the time I start, or I get bored half way through because I'm ready to hatch my next evil plot.

Oh well. Please just be comforted that I did drink, but not every day. I enjoyed everything I had and if it was uber remarkable I would have shared it with you. K? K.

Clear your schedules and get your drinking arm ready to go!

Take a peek at some of the fun events coming up for November, what the what?! I believe I'm going to have to clone myself another pissed liBEERian or get my minions to attend events on my behalf. There is just no way I can do it all!
I don't appreciate being teased with  pics of DFHead 90m IPA laciness that is on tap all the way in San Antonio. But even I can't argue that it's gorgeous.
Ta Da... Novembeer!

11/24 - Honey, the Parkway Ruined Thanksgiving @ Parkway Tavern, Tacoma 5p (Hahahaha, I love the name! I don't care how jet lagged I am from flying in from NY the night before. I also don't care how energy deprived the mandatory All Staff conference leaves me the next morning, I am going to this event and dragging everyone I can with me.)

Hope you can make it out for a few of these events and support local craft beer, I know I'm going to do my darnedest.
